Location & trigger

Reach Shade of Death through a Shadow Realm portal in overworld zones using 40 Dimensional Shards. The encounter is also called Uber Reaper. Bifröst offers an Uber Boss destination as an alternate route.

Entry materials & uses

The Ether node Key to the Shadows gives Ancient monsters in Shadow Realm a chance to drop stacks of Dimensional Shards. Bifröst Key comes from random key loot and is separate from the shard currency. Do not use the Act 2 boss Death’s Sigil to pay this entry cost.

Compare encounters

Death is the Act 2 boss in Chilling Cavern. Shade of Death is the Shadow Realm encounter. Death’s Sigil is an ingredient for Key of Terror, whereas Dimensional Shards pay for the Shadow Realm portal. Choose the encounter for the item you want rather than treating the two currencies as interchangeable.

Beacon of Shadows is a Heroic Wand requiring character level 98. Its modifiers include +3–4 to All Skills; Attacks per Second: 1.25; 10% chance when casting to cast level 80–100 Shadow Bolt; Attack Damage: 32–42; +10–15 to Vitality; Magic Skill Damage increased by 35–50%.
